Origins

This afternoon I was talking to gatz on #bsd about the origins of the name "Sneaky Mustard"… All the credit goes to phi, back in 2004:

13:24 <@andre> but there’s a reason it’s called sneaky mustard
13:25 <@andre> one day i complained about not being able to find something
13:25 <@andre> and phi said "just like mustard"
13:25 <@andre> and i was like "huh?"
13:25 <@andre> and he said he can never find the mustard in his fridge when he
               wants it
13:25 <@andre> so, sneaky mustard :p
13:26 < DaGr8Gatzby> Lol
13:26 < DaGr8Gatzby> hahaha shit that’s fuckin classic

I’ve just set up a microblog for Sneaky Mustard at micro.sneakymustard.com. This will be a simple collection of random pictures and quotes that I happen to find. I’m using Asaph as the microblog engine, and it’s really awesome.

Renew, revive

Hello once again.

So here I am trying to work on Sneaky Mustard one more time. This site started back in 2004 as a blog. After some time I felt I was losing the motivation to write and leaving it without updates for a while I decided to bring it back as a tumblelog-like thing, somewhat inspired by the now dead  Anarchaia. This was basically a collection of random stuff I found on the net, which was nice because it was much less work, but I ended up losing the motivation to keep it updated once again. Now, in its third incarnation, It’s going to be a blog again.

The thing about having a blog is that it requires real content to be interesting. I’ll be honest and say I’m not sure for how long I’ll be able to keep it up (that is assuming that what I already have in mind is interesting at all…). All things must surely have to end, but for now, all I know is that I’m excited to be doing this again. I have a design I like, which is basically the Dirtylicious theme with simple logo and background changes, I can host the site on Ruby on Rails now (OK, the tumblelog also ran on Rails, but in a somewhat clandestine server…) and I’m using Typo this time, which is a real blogging engine, meaning that finally Sneaky Mustard will support an actual comments system (although I really liked hoodwink.d… it’s a shame it’s dead).

However, I’ll take a "no promises" approach to this. I won’t try to setup some kind of writing schedule, or even a common theme in the posts. I’ll just let it go freely, writing whenever I feel I have something interesting to say, as time permits, and see if anything good comes out of it. I know myself, and I know that it never works out if the reason I’m doing something is "because I have to".

Anyway, life begins again at Sneaky Mustard! I hope this cycle will be longer than the previous ones, and I would enjoy receiving feedback from anyone reading this. After all, if this was only for me, I could very well just keep it all in my head.

Oh, and for my friends in #bsd… watch out for the return of the quotes!

I wish someone would notice the few random Smashing Pumpkins references I’ve thrown in this post but somehow I doubt it…

When I woke up from that sleep
I was happier than I’d ever been
When you decide that you life is a prize
Renew, revive
It’s alright, honey
It’s alright, yeah
